Multimorbidity – personalised health prevention for adults
MULTIPREVENT is an epidemiological study aimed at developing personalised health prevention strategies for adults at high risk of chronic non-communicable diseases.
The project focuses on multimorbidity, the coexistence of multiple diseases or risk factors in a single individual. This approach allows researchers to assess overall health risks rather than focusing on a single condition.
Chronic diseases such as cardiovascular disease, cancer, diabetes, respiratory disorders and osteoporosis often develop simultaneously and share common risk factors.
In many cases, symptoms appear only when the disease is already advanced. This is why preventive strategies focused on the early detection of multiple health risks are becoming increasingly important.
MULTIPREVENT builds on data collected in the MOLTEST-BIS programme and expands it with additional analyses to assess multiple diseases and risk factors simultaneously.
As a result, a single diagnostic pathway may provide information not only about lung cancer risk but also about cardiovascular, respiratory, metabolic, skeletal and liver health.
This approach has the potential to increase the value of screening programmes without significantly increasing the burden on participants.
The study follows a cohort of 3,000 individuals at high risk of lung cancer who previously participated in the MOLTEST-BIS programme.
Researchers analyse low-dose computed tomography (LDCT) scans together with spirometry results, laboratory tests and questionnaire data.
The project evaluates, among others:
The project uses a multiparametric analysis of imaging, clinical and genetic data to assess the risk of multimorbidity.
The findings will support the development of personalised prevention and early-detection algorithms tailored to an individual’s health profile.
The aim of the study is to develop risk models and preventive strategies that can improve both quality of life and life expectancy among people at risk of chronic diseases.
The project also seeks to establish a long-term health monitoring programme for adults, particularly current and former smokers.
Eligibility is assessed individually based on medical documentation and study criteria.
The project has the potential to change how screening programmes are conducted by extending them to assess multiple diseases simultaneously.
MULTIPREVENT also includes educational and preventive activities, including support for smoking cessation.
The project is funded by the Polish state budget through the Medical Research Agency (MRA), project number: 2023/ABM/03/00036.
Project duration: 01 May 2024 – 30 April 2033.
Total project value: PLN 37,529,509.00.
